Week of January 4-8, 2016

Happy New Year to everyone!!!! I sure hope that you all had a great time during your holidays.  We are now beginning the 4th Six Weeks and I hope that everyone comes to school ready and eager to learn.  We will be finishing up "Esperanza Rising."

Our next novel is "Out of the Dust" by Karen Hasse.  I know that everyone will enjoy this novel because the setting is during The Great Depression.  This is how some of it goes down:

Meet Billie Jo Kelby, a fourteen-year-old girl living in Cimarron County, Oklahoma with her mom, a homemaker, and her dad, a farmer. While there's peace in their small family, she hasn't exactly been living the dream. Her dad was expecting a boy and got her instead, which has kept their relationship strained, and on top of that, his farm is in decline due to the drought and dust storms. Things are about to change in a big way, though, as Ma has recently learned that she's going to have a baby.

Falcons we are slowly approaching the end of the third six weeks.  We have accomplished a lot but we still need a long way to go.  We have gone over several reading elements that will help with the understanding of "Esperanza Rising."  I hope that when we truly begin reading what you have learned will help you to better analyze characters, setting, theme and plot.

Next week we will begin reading "Esperanza Rising" and I hope that everyone will take the reading seriously.  Remember that in order to participate in class discussions you need to read before coming to class.

*Students can only wear school uniform to school.  No hoodies are allowed.  No torn jeans.
*Students need to turn in their school work when due.  Please make sure that you do!
